Box mistletoe (Amyema miquelii) is a large pendulous mistletoe with shiny leaves and red flowers borne in groups of three. It is generally found in open forest and eucalypt woodland and roadsides.
Box mistletoe has been recorded in 110 Eucalypt species but on NYP it will be found mainly in Eucalyptus camaldulensis (River Red Gum), Eucalyptus leucoxylon ( SA Blue Gum) and Eucalyptus porosa (Mallee Box).
The flower nectar attracts many birds and butterflies and mature clumps of Box mistletoe provide nest sites for a wide range of birds.
